Team Topnaar cycle racing team preparing for Desert Dash 2014

After a solid finish in Desert Dash 2013 in spite of a late withdrawal by the injured Jeffrey, Team Topnaar-Gobabeb is motivated and ready for Desert Dash 2014. Topnaar-Gobabeb after their participation in the Nedbank Classic Mountain Bike race

Gobabeb’s intrepid cyclists Samuel /Gowaseb and Richardt Swartbooi of Team Topnaar-Gobabeb participated in the Nedbank Classic Mountain Bike race, held in Windhoek last weekend. Both rode in the 75km race and found it extremely tough. It is a lot different from the cycling they are used to here in Gobabeb, being much more technical and hilly, but they managed to finish before the cutoff time. With arguably the most difficult race behind them, they are looking forward to the rest of the season’s racing, with short and long events that will be held in Walvis Bay, Swakopmund and Windhoek
throughout the year. Continue reading

Go Whitey!

Whitey Uirab

Whitey Uirab

After an extensive search for a replacement for Linda, the team has selected Whitey Uirab of Natab 2. When not cycling, Whitey is a farmer tending his goats. The team gave him a formal test, looking at his ability to ride fast for short periods, and then took him for a long ride to see how his endurance levels are. They are happy that he will be able to fill Linda’s shoes. Whitey did agree that the added demands of racing will mean that he will have to cut back on smoking a bit. Which is good on all accounts.
